Beyoncé- Formation

Beyonce is one of the most recognised singers in America, she is an influential and active feminist, a lot of her music deals with issues of gender or race. This is the music video for Beyonce’s “Formation” released as part of the 2016 “Lemonade” album, it is seen as capture.pngBeyonce’s return after two years and the song is full of messages and ideologies about race. The song was performed at the 2016 Superbowl, Beyonce and her back up dancers were all dressed in black berets and leather which was an homage to the Black Panther political party in the 60’s. In terms of a Goodwin analysis this music video does follow the conventions of music videos as a genre, we see this in a number of ways. Firstly, we see a strong link between the lyrics of the song and the visuals we see this first when she says “Y’all haters corny with that Illuminati mess Paparazzi..” in the video it shows a group of paparazzi, cghcameras flashing with a low angle shot, this could be read as the paparazzi or media being an intimidating force in her life over her break after controversy of theories that she was connected withe the “Illuminati”.
